What caught our eye before visiting — from reviews and research, not a stay.
Right next to the Niigata Racecourse, a 50-room, 7-story hotel billed as one of the biggest in the Koshin'etsu region. Rooms facing the track reportedly let you see the whole racecourse if you open the window.
The 2nd floor lines up an anything-goes set of concept rooms: Room 201, "School Classroom"; Room 203, "Hospital Exam Room"; Room 205, "Construction Site"; Room 206, "Japanese-Style Jail"; Room 207, "Showa-Era Tatami Room"; Room 208, "Unusual Tatami Room" (a foreigner's mental image of Japan, decked out with a hanging scroll, a conch shell, a sword, and even a mirror ball); and Room 210, a "Mongolian Yurt."
Higher floors keep the variety going — Room 306 ("Prairie"), Room 307 ("Glass Wall," a hit since the renovation), Room 310 ("Obi"), Room 311 ("Cabin Back," with an LG Styler), and Room 106's theater room (a 60-inch TV plus 5.1 surround sound).
Floors 3 through 5 have been renovated with a jet bath, hot spring, open-air bath, sauna, and rock-bath sauna, and every room is said to have a ReFa Fine Bubble S shower head.
We haven't been yet, so a star rating is still a ways off.

- Official name: Keibajo Us (Hotel Us Racecourse). 50 rooms across 7 floors, 50 parking spaces. Right next to the Niigata Racecourse. Uses a patented anti-face-to-face system for privacy.
- The 2nd floor centers on concept rooms — "School Classroom," "Hospital Exam Room," "Construction Site," "Japanese-Style Jail," "Showa-Era Tatami Room," "Unusual Tatami Room," and a "Mongolian Yurt" — while upper floors add plenty more variety: "Glass Wall," "Cabin Back" (with an LG Styler), "Prairie," "Obi," and a theater room (Room 106).
