What caught our eye before visiting — from reviews and research, not a stay.
Right by the Beppu IC — apparently just around the corner from the camouflage-patterned J ZAURUSS, on the same stretch of road.
Every room looks out over central Beppu and Beppu Bay — the same view, they say, as Jumonjibaru Observatory, one of Japan's official "100 best night views." Having that view to yourself from your own room is an interesting thought.
Each room comes with its own open-air bath, fed by an artificial radon hot spring — which apparently means soaking while looking out at that same night view.
The lobby has a free drink bar with a beer server, described as the first of its kind in Oita.
We haven't been yet, so a star rating is still a ways off.

- Official name: In the Woods. Run by SKY RESORT HOTELS (the SKY Group), right along the Beppu IC, close to J ZAURUSS.
- Multiple room types across floors 3–5. Every room has its own open-air bath (artificial radon hot spring). Free Wi-Fi throughout and in the lobby, plus a ReFa beauty shower and 3 types of hair irons.
- The lobby has a free drink bar with a beer server, described as a first for Oita.
- Rest: 5:00am–midnight (excluding some plans). Overnight: 5:00pm check-in, 11:00am–noon checkout the next day, available every day of the year.
- Choose from a 2-hour or 4-hour rest, a no-time-limit plan, or an overnight stay, with different weekday/weekend-holiday rates. Base rate covers 2 people, +50% per extra guest. Plus a 10% service charge; extensions ¥1,200 per 30 minutes. Up to 15% off with a member card, 50% off on birthdays/anniversaries for Gold members and above.
